Installation and Operation


What Operating Systems are supported by the SecureTrieve programs?
Any computer that operates Windows 2000, ME, or XP Home/Professional. SecureTrieve Pro uses very little operational memory.

Can the SecureTrieve programs be operational on a dual-boot system?
Yes, they will work on one or both of the operating systems if they are supported.

How do I install the SecureTrieve software?
After you have downloaded the program, run the installation wizard and follow the instructions.

How long does it take to install the SecureTrieve software?
SecureTrieve Pro will install using our installation wizard in less than a minute. After installation, you will be able to configure the service according to your preferences.

Can my IT administrator install SecureTrieve Pro in all the office computers from his/her computer?
The current version of SecureTrieve Pro must be downloaded on each individual user's computer and logged in using the company user name and password. Your office manager can add, edit, and remove computers under management using the web-based interface.

How do I hide files and folders with SecureTrieve Pro?
SecureTrieve Pro allows the user to secure and retrieve folders and files on their computer. Any files designated with SecureTrieve's intuitive file manager will be recovered and hidden 1) if the computer is in "Travel mode", or 2) at the next connection to the Internet after the computer is reported lost or stolen.

What are the Standard and Travel Modes in SecureTrieve Pro?

SecureTrieve Pro works quietly behind the scenes. When you are at your computer, working away, you'll want to operate in the Standard Mode, which is very much the same as how you work on your computer today. As you get ready to leave, even for only a few minutes, we suggest that you click on the Travel Mode. This immediately hides and encrypts predefined files and folders, to keep them confidential.

How do I designate upload files in case of theft with SecureTrieve Pro?

SecureTrieve Pro lets you designate files and folders you'd want to recover in the case of theft or loss. You simply point and click on the designated files or folders for recovery. When your missing computer is connected to the Web, SecureTrieve will upload those files and folders to our safe server if a theft or loss has been reported. You are the only one who will be able to read those files - they come to us fully encrypted and you hold the key.

How It Works


How does SecureTrieve work?
SecuriTrieve Pro is designed to reside on the computer's hard drive. The program is activated automatically and immediately when the computer is turned on. Program settings within the software are set by you after pressing a combination of keys, which you have predefined. Once SecuriTrieve Pro is installed and registered, your computer will "check in" daily via the Web with SecuriTrieve's Authentication Server. This keeps you connected to your valuable data. If your computer is stolen, and the thief goes on line, SecureTrieve will be able to secure your data by remote control as well as retrieve pre-designated files.

Does SecureTrieve work both on desktop PC's and laptops?
Yes. SecureTrieve Pro is effective on desktop PC's, laptops and notebooks, and will function properly even if the computer is lost or stolen from most countries in the world.

Can my computer be 'hidden' by a thief behind a firewall?

He can try, but it won't help him. SecureTrieve will connect to your laptop or PC even if it's behind a fire wall.

Will anti-virus software work with SecureTrieve Pro?

Both SecureTrieve Pro works well with all the major anti-virus products on the market. If, during installation, SecureTrieve is blocked by your anti-virus software, we suggest that you disable the operating anti-virus software until the installation is complete and then reactivate the anti-virus software immediately thereafter.

Can a thief see that the SecureTrieve program is protecting my computer?

A sophisticated thief might. However, your data is invisible and safely encrypted. Once the thief connects to the Internet, your pre-designated data will be recovered.

Account Information


Can I transfer my account to a different computer?
Yes you can. Once you log in, you are given an option to redefine the computer settings and then download the software to the other computer. You will also find that if you now have two computers, it's very worthwhile to register both computers for the best protection.

How do I change my password?

Simply send an email or call our support line. We can change it for you.

How do I get my password if I forget it?

To ensure your protection, in the case that your computer may have been stolen, you will need to call or email SecureTrieve and correctly answer two questions to positively identify yourself.

Can I modify my account information?

Yes you can. Once you log in, you are given an option to redefine your account information.

Can I stop my subscription and remove the SecureTrieve program from my computer?

If you are on the monthly payment plan, then you can cancel the service at any time throughout the year. If you have paid for the year in advance, SecureTrieve will continue to monitor your computer until the end of the period. In any case, you can delete SecureTrieve Pro from your hard drive by running the uninstall wizard that is built into the program.

How do I report that my computer has been stolen?
If you subscribe to SecureTrieve and your computer is stolen or lost, we make it easy for you to report the loss. You can either call us at 1-888-830-1348, then press 0, fax us at 1-213-596-6262 or send an email to our support department.

Can you connect to my computer, protect files or recover documents if my stolen computer is not connected to the Internet?

SecureTrieve can recover your files only if your computer is connected to the Internet. Once the computer is connected, we can protect and retrieve your files and folders. If your computer was in the "Travel Mode" before the theft, your critical information that was hidden and stored. It is safely hidden from view.

How do I know if you have recovered my folders and files from my computer?

You will be notified by Fax or Email when we recover your data.

How do I recover files and folders from my computer with SecureTrieve Pro?

SecureTrieve Pro lets you designate files and folders you'd want to recover in the case of theft or loss. You simply point and click on the designated files or folders for recovery. When your missing computer is connected to the Web, SecureTrieve will upload those files and folders to our safe server if a theft or loss has been reported. However, our ability to recover your critical data may be limited by the amount of time the thief is connected to the Internet. Be sure to back up your critical data before leaving the office. SecureTrieve will recover all files that have been marked for encryption and recovery.
